Terms of service

1Acceptance

By installing, authorising, or using Asststant, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the application. Where these terms and the privacy policy both apply, both form part of the same agreement.

2The service

Asststant is a personal, single-user command-line tool that reads its owner's own Gmail mailbox and presents what has arrived. It runs on the user's own computer. It uses read-only Google access and cannot send, alter, or delete mail. It is provided free of charge, is not sold, and carries no service-level commitment, uptime promise, or guarantee of continued availability.

3Permitted use

You may use the application only with a Google account you own or are authorised to use, and only for your own lawful purposes. You must not:

• use it to access any mailbox that is not yours to read;
• use it in breach of Google's own terms, or of any law applying to you;
• attempt to circumvent its read-only access, its credential storage, or any other security measure;
• present it as your own product, or as a service offered to others.

4Your account and credentials

You are responsible for your own Google account, your device, and the credentials held on it, including the OAuth tokens the application stores in your operating system's keyring. Keep your device secured and your account protected. You may withdraw the application's access at any time at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions. The operator has no access to your account, and cannot recover, reset, or restore anything on your behalf.

5Provided as is

The application is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. No promise is made that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will correctly retrieve, display, or summarise every message. Do not rely on it as your only means of reading important mail.

6Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary loss, nor for lost profits, lost data, or missed or misread messages, arising from the use of or inability to use the application. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the application, which is nil.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under the law of England and Wales.

7Termination

You may stop using the application at any time by revoking its access in your Google account and deleting it from your device. The operator may modify, suspend, or discontinue the application, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice. Sections 5, 6, and 9 survive termination.

8Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The revised version is published on this page with a new effective date, and applies from that date. Continuing to use the application after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms.

9Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, save that nothing here removes any right you have to bring proceedings in your country of residence where consumer law gives you that right.
